CSA Z195 Safety Footwear Labels Explained | SAFETOE

Publish Time: 2026-08-04     Origin: Safetoe Academy

A CSA logo alone does not explain which hazards a safety boot is designed to address. Canadian importers and distributors should understand the protection labels, verify the exact model and match the footwear to the workplace.

Start with SAFETOE’s CSA Z195 Certified Safety Footwear.

Understanding CSA Z195 Labels

The current protective-footwear standard is CSA Z195:14 (R2025). It covers design and performance requirements including toe protection, sole puncture resistance, metatarsal protection, electric-shock resistance, slip resistance and static control.

Common CSA labels include:

  • Green Triangle: Grade 1 protective toe with puncture-resistant sole protection.

  • White label with orange omega: electric-shock-resistant footwear.

  • Yellow SD label: static-dissipative footwear.

  • Red C label: electrically conductive footwear.

  • Dark-grey M label: metatarsal protection.

These markings are not interchangeable. For example, static-dissipative footwear should not be treated as electric-shock-resistant footwear.

How Buyers Can Verify Certification

Before placing a bulk order, confirm that the certificate covers the exact model being purchased.

The product label, model number, certificate and technical datasheet should contain consistent information. Buyers should also check whether the workplace requires a specific combination, such as Green Triangle protection together with electric-shock resistance.

A certificate issued for one design should not automatically be assumed to cover another model with different materials or construction.

Recommended CSA-Certified Models

The SAFETOE CSA-Certified Collection includes:

  • M-8552: waterproof, metal-free safety boot for mining and heavy outdoor work.

  • M-8025NB: composite-toe Chelsea boot for construction, maintenance and electrical applications.

  • H-9437: pull-on rigger boot for oil, gas and industrial workplaces.

  • H-9552: waterproof insulated boot for cold Canadian worksites.

These models are currently listed in SAFETOE’s CSA-certified product collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Green Triangle mean electrical protection?
No. It identifies Grade 1 toe protection combined with a puncture-resistant sole. Electrical protection uses the white-and-orange omega label.

Is every CSA-certified boot suitable for every job?
No. The required CSA symbols and additional features depend on the actual workplace hazards.
